french side seam Pockets

Making side seam pockets and side seams entirely with french seams is very pretty and very practical if hou don’t have an overlock!

Let’s do this step by step with the help of my lazy jumpsuit pattern :

(1) align the pocket bag to the body according to the notches with the wrong sides facing & sew with a small SA of 0,4-0,5 cm (⅛”-¼”).

(2) Cut into the SA (of the body) above and below the pocket to make pressing and turning over possible.

(3) fold and press the pocket bag over the body - so that the right sides are facing

(4) sew along the first seam with around 0,6-0,75 cm (¼” or a little more)

*note*
the total SA is 1,5 cm(⅝”) but we don’t want to use all of it - only about 1,2 cm or ½” the few millimeters difference will make the pocket seam disappear in the side seam!

(5) press the pocket bag away from the body

(6) repeat for all 4 pocket bags and then pin the side seams including the pockets bags together - match up well with the wrong sides facing!

(7) sew with 0,6 cm (¼”) SA and make sure to pivot well and neatly at the corners.

(8) trim the corner of the pocket and you can cut little triangles out of the curve to make turning easier!

(9) *turn inside out - so that the right sides are facing and press the edge of the side seam well. Sew again with 1 cm ( ⅜”) SA.

Yaay! Press and you are done!
